Rental Payment Program
Dear Housing Provider,
The Illinois Rental Payment Program is now open and accepting applications. The application is a joint effort that begins with the landlord and is completed by the tenant. All applications must be submitted online at ILRPP.IHDA.org.
Tenants whose applications are approved will receive up to $25,000 in emergency rental assistance paid directly to their landlord to pay for up to 15 months of rental assistance. The program will cover missed or partial rent payments from as far back as June 2020 as well as forward assistance for expected rent payments through August 2021. This assistance is a grant and does not have to be repaid.
To qualify for the program:
- Households must have incomes at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Income, adjusted for household size.
- At least one member of the household must have experienced a financial hardship, including a loss of income or increased expenses, due to the COVID-19 crisis.
- The household must have an unpaid rent balance.
We encourage you to communicate with your tenants regarding this program and to submit your joint application as soon as possible.
If you or your tenant are unable to access or complete the online application, please contact a Housing Stability Service Provider for free application assistance. You may also contact IHDA’s call center at (866) 454-3571.
An application will not be considered complete until both landlord and tenant complete their sections of the application. Find program updates, frequently asked questions, income limits, and eligibility details at www.IHDA.org.
